EDEN: strength in numbers
The EDEN (European Defence Economic Network) defence and security cluster organization which consists of 45 small and medium businesses in the Lyon region will be at Milipol Paris for the second time this year. Its stand will house around fifteen of its members – some of the others have opted to take individual stands.
This cluster was formed in 2008 and its members achieve combined annual sales of almost €500 million. Its priority aim is to promote its members’ exports in their respective sectors of activity divided in four families: protection, surveillance and detection systems; personal protection equipment; equipment for aeroplanes, boats and land vehicles, and finally engineering services. “Companies in the EDEN cluster achieve an average of 50% of their turnover in export. However, according to the companies, this figure varies from 1% to 90%. The majority of harnesses and frontal lamps for special forces in the world are manufactured by the firm Petzl, a member of our cluster”, said Ludovic Ouvry, EDEN’s Vice President and also chairman of the firm Ouvry which manufactures CBRN protective systems and makes 65% of its turnover from export.
After signing a cooperation agreement with the Brazilian defence association ABIMDE during Milipol Paris 2009, the Eden cluster will hold an international day on its stand on 19 October 2011, when it will sign new partnership agreements with various of its international counterparts, including the German defence cluster GSW (based in Dusseldorf) and the Danish cluster CenSec (based in Karup). “The aim of this activity is to enable our respective members to meet each other, to establish links between our respective countries and to extend our networks”, emphasizes Ludovic Ouvry. It also enables our members to benefit from the strength of the cluster in terms of organization and visibility and to benefit of joint services that it proposes during trade shows like Milipol Qatar and Milipol Paris. “We convinced Bollé Protection to come with us to Milipol Qatar and after that show the company was able to sign several contracts in the Middle East” Ludovic Ouvry was pleased to say.
Eden’s members will show several products in Milipol Paris 2011, including, to name but a few, a new model of heated gloves for HALO jumping from the firm Rostaing, infra-red protection born of joint development between Ulis and Sorhea and new CBRN protection for forces of order from the firm Ouvry.
